About Outliers

Outliers Fund was founded by research scientists, venture builders and investors from MIT in 2016. Outliers Blockchain Fund I / II have returned over 16x / 11x respectively. Outliers Lab #1 has incubated 10 startups with $100M+ raised collectively, three being acquired and two filing IPO. Outliers Blockchain Fund III has fully deployed its investment capital, entering into the final 4 years of portfolio growth and exiting period. In 2025, we aim to raise $200M for Outliers Computing Fund and $300M for Outliers Scientific Fund for investing in the next generation of startups developing technological breakthroughs in scientific and computing sectors.

Poseidon Ho

Founding Partner (Taipei, SF Bay Area)

Poseidon Ho, born & raised in Taiwan, is a 31 years old rising venture capitalist whose aspiration is to back outliers i.e. entrepreneurs turning science fiction into scientific facts and technological inventions. As a hobby, Poseidon also competes at the highest level of poker tournaments in the world, with his Player of the Year 2025 ranking No.1 in Taiwan 🇹🇼 In 2016, Poseidon started MIT special interest group on SciFi-inspired research, where 20 students syndicated $2M for Poseidon to manage as a solo GP. Since then, Poseidon has exited Outliers Fund I (16.43x), Outliers Fund II (11.23x), and deployed $33M for Outliers Fund III (ongoing). In 2025, Poseidon has launched & is raising $300M for Outliers Scientific Fund (http://scientific.outliers.fund/) for investing in defense / commercial Space technologies; $300M for Outliers Intelligence Fund (http://intelligence.outliers.fund/) for investing in AI, robotics, and quantum-based technologies. Prior to Outliers Fund, Poseidon researched Ant-Inspired Collective Intelligence and Reality Computing at MIT Media Lab, San Diego Zoo Global, and Microsoft Research. He has received 4 research fellowships, 15 international design and programming awards during his studies at National Taiwan University, MIT, University of Washington, and Tsinghua University.

David Chou

General Partner & IR Head (Taipei)

David leads fundraising, investor relations and exit strategy at Outliers Fund III. David advised Poseidon on fundraising and investor relations when Poseidon was running Outliers Fund I; invested as a LP at Outliers Fund II; and invested his Fund II LP payout and became a GP in Outliers Fund III. Throughout David’s 27-year career in VC/PE investment, M&A, IPO, leverage buyout, he has completed 60+ cross-border transactions worth over $9B, including investing $500K in Alibaba as the first institutional investor in 1999. David received his MBA from Columbia University, B.S. Economics / Geology from National Taiwan University, and attended Executive Program from Tsinghua University in Beijing

Clement Lee

General Partner (Shanghai, Hong Kong)

Clement Lee is a General Partner of Outliers Scientific Fund. He received his B.S. in Computer Science from University of San Francisco, MBA from Stanford University, PhD in Particle Physics from University of Oxford. In 1991, Clement founded Dine-One-One, a mobile computing company for food delivery, and grew it to 46 offices in the U.S. with $100M+ revenue. The company was merged with GrubHub Inc. and went IPO (NYSE: GRUB), where Clement cashed out $120M. Clement went to Shanghai in 2001, started Office General, and sold it to Regus (LSE: IWG) in 2011, where Clement received $40M cash + IWG shares. Clement is a pioneer in sharing economy, and the initial capital for his investment career was mainly derived from these two sharing economy venture exits. Clement has been investing for 25+ years mostly in venture funds, farm lands in the States, physical gold and gold mine, bonds and equities and bitcoin farms. He also invested in early stage startups, including Lalamove from the first round. He was an anchor LP for a hedge fund in Shanghai, which started with RMB $100M and he helped grow it to RMB $2.1B in 5 years. He is also a shareholder of Fortuna Hotel, Casino in Macau, and other properties.

Ira Winder

Head of Research & CTO (Tokyo, Boston)

Ira Winder leads research and technology at Outliers Fund, where he develops financial engineering models and simulation frameworks to inform investment and exit strategies. As a member of the investment committee, Ira contributes technical due diligence and assesses the feasibility, scalability, and sustainability of potential deals. Prior to joining Outliers, Ira conducted research at the MIT Media Lab, where he co-developed the Tactile Matrix—a tangible, real-time urban simulation system that has been utilized by city governments worldwide and featured by Gates Ventures, the G7 Summit, and the Singapore World Cities Summit, among others. Ira has held academic appointments at the MIT Department of Urban Planning & Studies and at the Henkaku Center for Radical Transformation at Chiba Institute of Technology. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from MIT, and is an affiliate of the Engineering Systems Laboratory within the MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Sophia Wang

Research Associate

Sophia leads space research at Outliers Fund. She’s specialized in the engineering of highly autonomous systems. Sophia has built in-orbit technologies, from exoplanet observation software and optical communication crosslink hardware to containment systems for the Mars Sample Return Mission. She has worked with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Ames Research Center, and Goddard Space Flight Center. At the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms, Sophia contributed to proof of concept robotics towards the first demonstration of self assembly in space with NASA Starshade. She’s interested in understanding, leveraging, and constructing complex systems. Outside of Aero/Astro, she applies her systems thinking to design technology policy and build research institutions. Sophia received her B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from MIT.

Michael Chase

Research Associate

Michael is a quantitative researcher and investor focused on next-generation defense systems, high-performance computing, market microstructure, and autonomous financial infrastructure. He previously built simulation-based risk and pricing models at Moody’s and led satellite ML research at NASA. He holds degrees in Biostatistics from USC (PhD, leave of absence) and Physics & Biochemistry from Penn State, where he managed a $12M long/short equities portfolio.

Albert Chou

CFO (Taipei, Shanghai)

Albert leads finance & tax at Outliers Fund, overseeing the fund’s financial strategy, accounting & auditing, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance. Albert is a board member of Outliers Fund’s investment committee, where he performs financial due diligence and evaluates investment deals’ financial statements, tax planning, legal and regulatory compliance. Albert brings over 30 years of professional experience in tax and finance from leading high-tech companies like Apple Computer, Inc. and the Big Fours including Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PwC across the U.S., China and Taiwan offices. Albert holds LL.M. from New York University, University of Pennsylvania and J.D. from Rutgers University.

Alexander Tam

Finance Associate (Hong Kong)

Alexander works alongside our CFO and COO on finance, accounting, tax planning, and legal & compliance. He specializes in Hong Kong profits tax, international financial laws, and Hong Kong fund compliance. He was a senior consultant at one of the Big Four accounting firms. He graduated from USC with a B.S. in Business Administration, M.A. in Photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design, and is in the process of acquiring a law degree from the University of Hong Kong SPACE.

Zac Wang

Research & Investment Associate (Taipei)

Zac leads research for Web3 projects and helps our portfolios build community, providing strategies for user growth and token economic design. He joined Outliers Fund in 2023 and assists Poseidon with various fund tasks. Prior to investing in and working at Outliers Fund, Zac assisted with project research, event planning, and community operations for Web3 at Cherubic Ventures. He has previously held roles in product management and marketing at several Web2 startups. Zac received his B.A. in Business Administration from National Taipei University.

Hunter Lee Soik

Senior Advisor (Dubai, Bali)

Hunter Lee Soik is a professional with a diverse background in technology and innovation. He has experience in various roles that emphasize the intersection of technology, wellness, and society. He is associated with the ensō group, where he contributes to projects that focus on enhancing civic solutions through applied machine learning. Hunter has a strong academic foundation with studies at MIT Center for Transportation, which informs his approach to developing sustainable and tech-forward solutions. His work encompasses enabling government technology and addressing civil challenges, showcasing his commitment to social impact through technology.
