Outliers Space Briefing #3

SpaceX struggles to keep up with Starlink demand along Ukrainian front lines. Troops report high demand for Starlink to support military operations. Remotely operated vehicles, like rovers, get as little as 10 megabits per second of bandwidth, making it difficult to get the video feed needed to control vehicles. Some have turned to terrestrial radio signals as alternatives, but Starlink remains essential to military operations. (Source: Space.com)

Iridium developed a chip that uses signals from its satellites to protect GPS services. The company invited partners to test a thumbnail-sized chip that can be embedded directly into products, from mobile devices to major infrastructure systems such as power grids, enabling them to use position, navigation and timing (PNT) signals from its 66 LEO satellites. The chip addresses jamming and spoofing as SpaceX’s Starlink encroaches on other parts of its business. (Source: SpaceNews)
